JACK WILLS NEW OPENING
Some may call it ideal for a store branded a 'University Outfitter' to be newly opened in a major student town, especially the students of Canterbury who are happy to have such a shop so close to home.

As of Thursday 14th April 2011, Jack Wills revealed its grand opening in Canterbury town on George street. The shop is situated in the heart of the town, close to major retail chains such as New Look, newly opened Cath Kidston and Marks and Spencer's.

The store has always been a favourite to Prince William and his new wife Kate Middleton as well as his brother Harry and they have been spotted out in the clothing on many occasions. The store began an advertising campaign for the newlyweds during the period of the Royal Wedding, selling merchandise with the logo on the left.

Specialising mostly in casual wear, both men and women can enjoy the choices the store provides for a vibrant and comfortable trend. Although the store was deemed very popular for locals, students and adding to the modern style of the town, there are some factors that 'put off' the customer spending.

Lauren Bates, a history student at Canterbury Christ Church University says:

"I think the clothes in Jack Wills are lovely. they are not the sort of things or styles i usually go for but when the shop first opened i couldn't resist having a look.

"After having a look i was shocked at how expensive the clothes actually were. A pair of socks were £15 and out of all the stock the only things i would consider buying would be a tracksuit top or joggers, which is nothing special.

"I may be a student on a student budget but that is extreme. I would much rather spend that much on a top from Topshop- and it will be nice enough to wear on a night out not just around the house."

However, there are many students that are in favour of the new store opening. Hannah O'Shaugnessy, also a student at Christ Church, disagrees with the previous comments and believes that Jack Wills is 'the best shop ever.'

"I was so excited when i saw all the building for the new Jack Wills. I am a massive fan to say the least. I think the prices are well worth the things you can buy.

"Back at home i always shop there and have so many clothes from there. I don't think it is just lounging around in clothes, many of the clothes i wear out during the day and they are so comforting and warm and just nice all round.

"Its like a designer label but at student prices and styles. When the shop opened i brought a pencil case and pens because thats all i could afford. But i actually love that shop that i didn't mind buying something so little.

"I could spend everyday and all the money i will ever have in Jack Wills. I actually love it."

HOLLYWOOD STAR DAME ELIZABETH TAYLOR DIES
Style icon Elizabeth Taylor dies at just age 79.
The British-born icon began her amazing career aged nine and became the diamond-draped epitome of Hollywood glamour.
The world was enthralled by her life including her eight marriages and natural talent for acting. After facing years of battling illness, Taylor continued to show her face and keep a brave face for her fans.

In 1991 Elizabeth Taylor married Larry Fortensky in a ceremony that took place at Michael Jackson's Neverland. The pair had become great friends and even up to his dying day they remained very close.
One of Elizabeth Taylor's last interviews: on Michael Jackson's death

Liz said of her marriages, as posted on The Sun website : "I was brought up by a very moral and puritanical family and I just could not adjust to having affairs. It meant that when I thought I was in love with somebody it more or less led to the altar."

Throughout her career Taylor made more than 50 films. Her last film in 1994 was The Flintstones in which she played Wilma's mum. In 2000 she was made a Dame at Buckingham Palace. She quipped: "I've always been a broad, now I'm a Dame... "

The following year Bill Clinton awarded her the Presidential Citizens' Medal - the second-highest civilian honour in the US.

After an interview with The Sun, on looking on her life, she said: "Everything was handed to me - looks, fame, wealth, honours, love.
"But I have paid for that luck with disasters, the deaths of so many good friends, terrible illnesses, destructive addictions, broken marriages.
"All things considered, I'm damned lucky to be alive."
In her final interview, in a fashion magazine last month, Liz said: "I never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands.
"For me, life happened, just as it does for anyone else. I have been supremely lucky in that I have known great love, and of course I am the temporary custodian of some incredible and beautiful things."

In the last years of her life Elizabeth stayed clear of the spotlight and spent most of her time in her house in Bel Air, California. However, after battling with a brain tumour and skin cancer as well as in the last 25 years undergoing more than 100 operations, the star was laid to rest.

KATE MOSS TURNS CHARITABLE
Supermodel Kate Moss does her charitable bit for Comic Relief this year but a not so innocent side is revealed.

The 37-year-old normally TV-camera-shy model, shows her support for Comic Relief this year by coming to the rescue of  the cute 'Misery Bear' in the BBC video below.

The video shows 'Misery Bear' on his door-to-door fundraising mission, feeling dejected by some unwilling not so charitable members of the public. This look more positive when he knocks on Kate Moss's door, who greets him with open arms. She provides 'Misery Bear' with good hospitality of red wine, beer and champagne, before inviting him upstairs to her bedroom.

JOHN GALLIANO FIRED FROM DIOR
British fashion designer John Galliano has been sacked from Fashion Label Dior after a video leaked of his 'love for Hitler.'
Galliano, 50, is awaiting a trial for racial assaults after demonstrating his attitudes towards certain racial groups on a drunken night out with friends.

The fashion director allegedly attacked a couple in a cafe after a night out in Paris

The British designer, an alleged Jew hater, tells the horrified woman:
"People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefather, would all be f****** gassed."

Galliano, 50, was at the same Paris bar where he allegedly launched a vicious verbal attack on two other people the week before. This led him to being arrested and suspended by fashion label Christian Dior. After stating he loves Hitler and making the horrific 'gassing' remark the label had no other form of punishment other than firing the designer.

The man who filmed Galliano's outburst told The Sun newspaper:
"Galliano was sitting alone nursing his drink, when a few of us sat at the next table.

"Galliano kept intruding, throwing in comments about us and what we were saying. We knew who he was. He's instantly recognisable.

"We were stunned by what Galliano was saying, but then he started making vile anti-Semitic comments. His words were disgusting. He made it clear the Italian girls weren't welcome and should go home. This was pure racism."

The Sun continued to state that Galliano launched a legal appeal against French Ms Bloch and Mr Virgitti, who is of Asian origin, for defamation.

COTTON PRICE INCREASE
Be prepared for emptier purses in the up and coming months as clothes shopping is about to cost a lot more than it has recently.
High street retailers and local fashion shops are also set to suffer from the increase as the cost for their clothing material will rise quite highly.
The feature to the left demonstrates the effect of this issue and how retailers feel it is going to be overcome.

A more global look on the increase...

With cotton prices on the increase it is likely that there will be no such thing as 'cheap clothes'. Clothing prices in the US are predicted to rise by 10% in the coming months. Due to the growing cost of labour and raw materials, manufacturers are forced to increase prices and retailers in turn are likely to to pass this onto shoppers.
India is the world's second-largest cotton exporter next to China have already produced cotton shortages. Over the last year, according to the International Cotton Advisory Committee, has doubled. On Friday 11th February, it hit a 150 year high at $1.90 per pound of cotton.
For decades now, clothing prices have dropped because of cheap overseas labour and retailers forced to slash prices during the recession. The extra costs will soon be evident at some of America's most popular retailers.

Levi Strauss & Co., Wrangler jeans maker VF Corp., J.C. Penney Co., Nike and designer shoe seller Steve Madden are among those planning to raise prices.

"All of our brands, every single brand, will take some price increases," confirmed Eric Wiseman, chairman and CEO of VF Corp., whose brands include The North Face, Nautica, Wrangler and Lee.

"Retailers are uneasy about rising costs though, and have expressed concern that the spike in sales over the holidays may not last.

"Stores that cater to low and middle-income shoppers will have the hardest time passing along price increases.

"We have been so used to deflation for years and years,' said David Bassuk, managing director in retail practice AlixPartners.

"Customers are going to be surprised."
