Fashion Week


Across the world many top countries are getting ready for Fashion Week. It is very clear that Fashion holds an important part in many lives in many places around the globe. 



Top Fashion Week destinations are London, New York, Tokyo, Milan and Paris. There are no secrets to Paris and Milan being well known for their fashion, being home to many designer labels such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton. 

It is safe to say that except for the obvious natural disaster in Japan, the remaining cities performed exceptional is showing off the up and coming fashion trends and styles. 

London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week was a soaring success this year, following the victorious week of 2010. 

London Fashion Week belonged to the new generation as the levels of creativity boomed at the catwalks. The front rows were full of editors-in-chiefs, international fashion commentators and buyers, the world was watching 'live' on the internet.

Burberry streamed its show live to 150 countries from a digital screen in Piccadilly Circus. Commuters got daily updates on screens at more than 60 stations on the London Underground. People without show tickets chilled out at the open-air café on the cobblestones at Somerset House, LFW's fashion HQ, and watched the catwalk action live on an outdoor screen.

Fashion label Erdem main design focus was on 'College-couture' where vivid prints were on cashmere, tweed and lace. On the other hand, Burberry Prorsum's Christopher Bailey focuses on unearthed Fifties as his focus point containing flecked tweeds and crunchy wool boucles ( according to Vogue). Similarly, Betty Jackson went in a different route discovering a new Italian 'teddy bear' fabric which is knitted from alpaca and angora.

Overall it is clear to say that the London Fashion Shows were a massive success as demonstrated by some of the clothing that was on the catwalks. 

New York Fashion Week

Prior to the success's of London Fashion week in February was New York who kicked off the celebrations and catwalks.

Japan forced to cancel Fashion Week

Due to the current events happening in Japan, it is no surprise that Fashion Week has been forced to be cancelled. The Show was supposed to take place on March 21 to 25, with many brands calling off their shows and other postponed indefinitely.

The Fashion Week website posted a statement saying:
"Our heartfelt regrets go to those individuals who were affected by the disaster of the Eastern Japan Earthquake.
Due to the multiple concerns regarding current electricity shortages, unreliable transportation, and general safety concerns, the "Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo" that was scheduled to take place this week and next week has been cancelled."

Although Japan were unable to go ahead with the Fashion Show, other large cities such as London, Paris and New York were able to continue with their past successes of Fashion Week.
